Office Hours:
Monday and Wednesday from 3:45 to 4:45
Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30

 

English 83 A is a reading improvement class.  Section 1971 meets Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45 to 5:05, and section 4241 meets Thursday from 6:45 to 9:50pm.  These classes start August 30 and end December 20 (final week schedule will follow).

 

Goals
To improve vocabulary, reading comprehension, speed and enjoyment for casual and academic material.

 

Credit
To get credit for English 83, each student must:

•     turn in 80% of all assignments
•     earn passing grades on 80% of quizzes and tests
•     miss no more than three classes
•     put 2 hrs per week in the reading lab (DRSCHR 312)

 

Books

By the second class meeting each student must have a copy of Reading Faster and Understanding More, level one, fifth edition.  Each student should also have a copy of Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich and the English 83 lab book for this section number. Students should also buy a good portable dictionary.  The Longman Dictionary is recommended.

 

Materials

Students will need a 3 ring notebook with lined paper, scantron sheets, a number two pencil and pens with black ink.
