Chem 11 is the first half of a traditional two-semester first-year college chemistry course for science majors. It introduces the fields of physical, inorganic and organic chemistry. Topics to be covered include (but are not limited to) nomenclature, chemical reactions and stoichiometry, solution chemistry, gas laws, thermochemistry, atomic structure and quantum chemistry, chemical periodicity, chemical bonding, molecular structure, intermolecular forces, and liquid properties. The laboratory will provide in-depth applications of these principles.
The prerequisites for this course are passing grades in: (1) Math 20 or HS Algebra II, and (2) Chem 10 or the Chem 10 Challenge Exam. You must be able to understand and apply mathematical concepts through intermediate algebra. Completion or concurrent enrollment in precalculus is highly recommended.

Enrolled students who are absent from any class for the first two weeks of the semester without a valid excuse will be dropped from the course. |
