Lab Safety

Safety goggles must be worn at all times while performing experiments, and no food, drink or gum are ever allowed in the lab.  Students are required to follow the SMC Safety Rules at all times, as well as any additional safety rules outlined by the instructor for specific labs.

Lab Equipment

Most lab equipment is stored in the student lockers or in various other locations in the lab.  However, more specialized (and expensive) equipment must be checked out from the stockroom.  Students must be able to identify all of the equipment they use throughout the semester, and describe the primary function of the equipment.

Lab Experiments

The experiments listed in the table below are not necessarily listed in the order that they will be performed.  Please consult your Course Schedule to determine which experiment to prepare for each week.

Print out a copy of the Background & Procedure, Prelab Assignment and Lab Report for your scheduled experiment each week.  Bring these documents to your lab period.  Carefully read the Background & Procedure for each experiment or exercise, and complete the Prelab Assignment before coming to lab.  The Prelab Assignment is due at the beginning of each lab period.  Completed lab reports are due either at the end of the lab period, or one week after being performed.
