Attn:  I continued to accept reports into early August.  I then collated the reports and submitted them to the North American Bird Bander for publication.  The 2006 Seasonal Summary for the Western States will be published in issue No. 3 of Volume 32.

WESTERN BIRD BANDING ASSOCIATION
BIRD BANDING SUMMARY
JANUARY 1 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2006

Dear Bird Bander:

The following is a survey for the Western Bird Banding Association's annual summary of bird banding activity in the western United States, Canada, Hawaii, and Mexico.

Having taken over the task of compiling the WBBA bird banding annual summary, I have decided to go electronic as much as possible.  Considering the fact that we now submit our data to, communicate with, and get MTAB electronically from the Bird Banding Laboratory, this is the logical next step.  In addition, other ornithological resources are now online such as the OSNA newsletter and SORA, which includes our North American Bird Bander.
So I hope you will submit your bird banding effort for 2006 electronically.  An Excel spreadsheet (2006 Annual Summary) of all potential birds in our region is available on my homepage.
Please enter in the column to the right of each species the total number that you and your subpermitees banded with USFWS or CWS bands in 2005.  If you banded in more than one state/province, please use (an)other column(s) and indicate the province or state using the standard two letter code.  You will note that I have also include the four letter Alpha Code and AOU# for each bird, so you can sort for ease of data entry.  (Remember that you can extract your annual banding data from BandManager.)  Your contribution is very important to ensure that the published report accurately represents banding in Western North America.
Also, your contact information came from the Bird Banding laboratory or the Canadian Wildlife Service, so if there are any changes, alternate email addresses or contact persons, please let me know for future mailings.  For proper citation purposes, please indicate the proper station name, master bander name, address, email address, and permit number.
Thank you for your cooperation.  Please submit your report prior to 30 July 2007 to me at sakai_walter@smc.edu as an attached file.

If you need to or still wish to submit your data via a hard copy, you may still do so.  If you need a hard copy, please contact me via one of the methods below, and I can send it to you.  And if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

                                                                            Sincerely,

                                                                            Walter H. Sakai
