CLASS MEETINGS: Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:45 p.m. to 2:05. (Class will begin at 12:50 and end by 1:55.* This is done to give the students time to dress before and after class.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This introductory fitness and wellness is designed to acquaint students with the benefits of physical activity in their lives. This course will include a survey of activity/fitness modules including cardiovascular work, strength and conditioning, weight training, yoga, etc. This course will include fitness evaluation (self-testing), general principles of health, fitness, and nutrition, development of a personal training program, and much more.

The logbook and CD-ROM included with the book are required for class.

LABORATORY REQUIREMENTS: Students are required to participate in scheduled labs. These are part of this course and are mandatory! Students are required to fufill two hours each week. Students must attend labs in athletic clothing. Shorts, t-shirts, sweats are acceptable. NO STREET CLOTHES OR STREET SHOES!

GRADING: Grading is based on attendance and participation. One written exam is given at the end of the semester. Grading is based as follows:

Midterm: 25%

Final: 30% Text Book Lab Sheets: 20%

Random Quizzes: 25%

Midterm and Final exams will be given in class. There are no make-ups for these exams!!!

Random Quizzes will be given throughout the semester. One quiz will be dropped at the end of the term. There are NO make-ups for quizzes.

Behavior Change Log Book is included with the textbook. This is in addition to the lab sheets. Grading for each section of this log book will be done upon each section’s due date. Log books that are turned in late can only receive 80% of the possible maximum score.

Text Book Lab Sheets are found in the text. Due dates for each section will be given in class. Late lab sheets will receive only up to 80% credit.

Absences for studying, parking problems, etc. will not be excused! Absences for illness must be document by your doctor or the SMC health office. ONE MEDICAL ABSENCE WILL BE EXCUSED IF DOCUMENTED! These do not affect your grade.

Tardiness will affect your grade. Students who arrive after 12:50 and before 1:00 will be marked tardy. TWO TARDIES COUNT AS ONE ABSENCE! Students who arrive after 1:00 are not allowed to participate and will be marked absent.
