This series has Books One, Two, Three and Four; each book contains 20 readings accompanied by vocabulary, comprehension and study skills questions. SFB provides provocative selections by Black writers; TFR provides stimulating readings written by a variety of authors. An answer key is provided. Book One = GL 6 & 7; Book Two = GL 8 & 9; Book Three = GL 10 &11; Book Four = GL 12>.
Stories from American History by Myrtis Mixon:
Contains 15 readings about key issues and people in American history (1492-1970) along with vocabulary, comprehension and discussion questions. In addition to these questions, students can write summaries of the two-to three page readings.
Taking Charge of My Life : Personal Essays by Today's College Students (Townsend Press)
Contains 24 autobiographical readings written by students who overcame physical and emotional obstacles and found success in attending school. Short quizzes have been prepared for the readings; students can write summaries of the three-to-five page inspirational readings.
Triple Takes by Reader's Digest
A multi-leveled series with reading passages that are a few paragraphs in length. At the end are vocabulary and multiple choice comprehension questions. Each question is labeled as one of the following: main idea, detail, inference, or vocabulary.

Provides definitions and situations to demonstrate meanings of 101 common idioms. This book does not have practice exercises but can be used as a prompt for writing paragraphs that demonstrate the meanings of the idioms.
