Welcome to Geography at Santa Monica College!

Pete
For those who don't already know me, my name is Pete Morris. I take pride in being a teaching geographer, with interests that span the full breadth of the discipline. But if pushed, I'd more specifically describe myself as an historical geographer, with research and writing interests that have included the following areas: the Canadian-American border region of the northwestern Great Plains; urban planning and the continuing history of Los Angeles and the Santa Monica Bay region; and bicycles and bicycling as a geographic experience. I am currently in the early planning stages of a global historical geography of beer and the brewing industry.

I hold degrees in Geography from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison and in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. For what it's worth, I'm also something of a local product (sort of), having graduated from Diamond Bar High School (class of 1985) in the hilly margins of southeastern Los Angeles County, between the coastal plain of northern Orange County and the interior valleys of San Gabriel, Pomona, and the extended Inland Empire...yes, the infamous "909" (although for the record, it was still "714" when I was growing up there!) For more information about me and my approach to geography, see my on-line CV and my rather eclectic (and very occasional) blog, California Pete's Two-Wheeled World of Wonder.
