JUNE LAKE
July, 2002
(7/25)
As Amy and I were driving up the 395 approaching Bishop, Amy woke up from a nap
and I told her that I thought we would be stopping soon because "there's
supposed to be a place with REALLY GOOD BEEF JERKY coming up." Within a few
minutes after I said that we passed a huge billboard advertising "REALLY
GOOD BEEF JERKY, 2 miles ahead." We had a big laugh about that!!
Mandy, Chris and Jennifer brought Bryan to us in June Lake and we all spent the
first afternoon at June Lake Beach. It was nice, but we didn't stay very long.
The water was freezing (duh!) and it was pretty windy.
Bryan
looking AWFULLY cold.
Chris,
Jennifer and Bryan (who still looks AWFULLY cold!)

and Jennifer
Later that evening, we walked to Gull Lake from our cabin to do some fishing.
Didn't catch anything, but it was nice and relaxing....until it began to get
really cold.
Bryan
fishing at Gull Lake.
Amy
got bored with fishing pretty quick and preferred reading and sunning.
They both look kinda bored, but they were having fun.....REALLY!!
(7/26) The next day we rented a boat on June Lake. We rented it for all day, but
we only went fishing in the morning and late afternoon. Still didn't catch any
fish and it was REALLY cold in the morning. Hmmm...sounds like it was always
cold, but in actuality, the days were BEAUTIFUL. Even the evenings were nice and
we were able to walk around in shorts and t-shirts, but the early mornings were
COLD.
It was pretty funny -- every time we started up the boat, these ducks (momma and
babies) would come racing up to us with their rear ends just wiggling back and
forth like crazy. Wonder what they wanted...
After fishing in the morning, we went to meet Mandy, Chris and
Jennifer at their condo in Mammoth. After lunch, we all went for a hike along
Crystal Creek.
You
can't tell, but I took this picture because Jennifer had the DIRTIEST face. She
was having a ball.
After hiking along the creek, we headed toward Emerald Lake.
(7/27) Since we have a tradition of visiting/touring state capitol buildings, we
had tried to stay in Carson City on a previous vacation, but couldn't find a
hotel room. We decided we'd have to come back another time and this was it. It
was almost a 3-hour drive (one way) and the capitol building (and Carson City)
is nothing to write home about, but at least we can check Nevada off our list
now.
This ram-thing was in front of the capitol building. I don't remember what its significance was, but it seemed like a cool (cheesy) thing to take a picture of with the kids.
This is inside their Supreme Court room which was about as big as my bedroom
(maybe a little smaller). Amy is standing by their display showing the 11 cases
that the Supreme Court has heard.
Very
cool chair made out of antlers. I don't know how comfortable it would be
though...
Sorry, I don't mean to make fun of Nevada, but okay, I thought this was VERY funny. This is their State Assembly room. Pretty impressive, huh? I especially like the mismatched folding chairs.
In all fairness, Nevada has newer and bigger
state government buildings across the street from the capitol.
Although this room was labeled as the Assembly room, I don't think it's the
"official" one anymore.
The rest of our trip pictures are still in the camera, but I don't want to keep everyone in suspense waiting for them to be developed, so....YES, we did finally catch some fish!! Yeah!!
