GRANT ACTIVITY Fall 1999: NSF
Course, Curriculum and Laboratory Improvement grant, $195,153. I was the principal investigator and co-author of
this grant proposal, entitled “Introducing
Fourier Transform Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy into the
Undergraduate Curriculum,” by Richard Lavallee, Nathan Winter, Alison
Johnson, Tamara Leenay, Melinda Lee, Michael Jeannot, and Jack McKenna. These funds were used to purchase a new high-field Fourier
Transform nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, which was
incorporated throughout the chemistry program, including playing a major
role in a summer workshop I co-developed for high-school chemistry
teachers in the summer of 2000. Spring 1998: Minnesota
Higher Education Eisenhower grant, $9,986. I was a member of a team that was funded for a
proposal entitled “Preparing Elementary Science Teachers for
Tomorrow’s Schools.” This
team was responsible for developing a new general science course to
prepare pre-service teachers for teaching science at the elementary level.
I also designed a new physical science course, which is being
offered to elementary education majors pursuing a concentration in
science. AWARDS / HONORS 1997: Martin Reynolds Smith Award for Outstanding
