If you are a teacher involved in teaching Elementary Algebra at the two-year college level you may be interested in looking at the text adopted by Santa Monica College. The 3rd edition is custom published by Houghton Mifflin Company, ISBN #0-618-10876-9. This text was written to satisfy the need for an introductory level text that would better prepare our students for our Intermediate Algebra course. We feel this text has the content and quality that our students need and that our colleagues value. There is no other Elementary Algebra text like this one, so if you are looking for something new and different, yet solid and commanding, contact the publisher.

This text was first published in 1992 and is still unique among all published Prealgebra texts for its early introduction and integration of signed numbers and fractions.  The text is particularly strong on the order of operations and the use of grouping symbols.  It is the only Prealgebra text that has complete coverage of signed exponents.  The text also includes word problems and has an introduction to graphing lines and a brief but geometric approach to the slope of a line.  In 2000 the 2nd edition was published by Houghton Mifflin Company as a custom text and has ISBN# 0-618-10902-1.
