Some browsers (like Lynx) do not support images and are used by the sight challenged or blind because their PC can read the contents of the ALT tag out loud. Another consideration: You don't know what the visitor's (viewing your site) hardware capability is. Some browsers do not support images at all. Other browsers support them but the visitor to your site may have such a slow connection that they choose NOT to view the images, or in some cases to load them in manually.
