7. Perform a Preview Scan. Perform any final alignment
and re-select the area to be scanned, if necessary.
8. Once the scan is complete, close the scanning applet
9. Save the image as a Photoshop PSD File. Remember,
Photoshop 4.0 can only perform one level of undo on an image.
Select FILE > SAVE AS,
then select a directory / Filename.
10. Crop the image, then Resize the image as necessary.
a) If destined for Print,
select IMAGE > IMAGE SIZE.
Then enter a desired width or height in "Print Size".
DO NOT select "Constrain Proportions".
Crop the image instead.
b) If destined for Screen Output (i.e., Web Page or PowerPoint
presentation), enter a desired pixel width or height.
11. Save the image again.
Select FILE > SAVE
12. Adjust Tonal Range.
Either select IMAGE > ADJUST > AUTO LEVELS,
or IMAGE > ADJUST > LEVELS,
and manually set the White Point, Black Point and
Midrange Point (Gamma Level).
13. Save the image again.
Select FILE > SAVE
14. If no further adjustments are necessary, Sharpen
the image using Unsharp Mask.
Select FILTER > SHARPEN > UNSHARP MASK
At the dialog box, select an amount from 40% to 50% to start.
Experiment using the Preview option to get the desired level.
15. Save the image in its final format. Use either PSD or TIFF;
or for Web images, save as a JPG file, Medium to High Quality,
and do not save the Thumbnail, or Paths with the image.
A good rule of thumb is to keep the total size of all images on
a Web page to 50KB or less.
