Born 1943 Los Angeles, California. Educated at California State
University, Long Beach, Bachelor of Arts 1966, Master of Art in Drawing
and Painting 1968. Professor of Fine Art, Santa Monica College,
California 1969 to present, major emphasis in Drawing, Painting and
Printmaking.
Mr. Emery has traveled and worked in France, England, Scotland, Italy,
Greece, Spain, Egypt, Thailand, Tahiti, Hawaii, Mexico and Costa Rica.
Don was a guest of Alexander Calder at his studio and home in Sache,
France and also a guest of Salvador Dali and his wife Gala at their home
in Cadaquez, Spain. He circumnavigated the globe in 1985.
He has since visited Europe several times and was given a Sabbatical
Leave from teaching to visit and exhibit his graphic working Poland in
both 2000 and 2001. Don was the first American artist invited to go to
exhibit his prints at the Glasgow Print Studio and was also a guest
artist at the Glasgow School of Art in 1982. He co- curated an
exhibition from the Print Studio, Glasgow in Santa Monica in October of
1999.
Mr. Emery has had one man art exhibitions at California State
University, Long Beach (1968), Northridge (1972), Dominguez Hills
(1974), California Museum of Science and Industry, Los Angeles
(1976),Brand Library Art Gallery, Glendale (1978), Pennsylvania State
University Research Library (1983), Bridge Gallery, Los Angeles City
Hall, Olympics Exhibition (1984),Neiman Marcus, Beverly Hills (1986),
Pierce College (1992), Santa Monica College (1976, 1982 and first
retrospective 1994), Muzeum Okregowe Ziemi Kaliskiej (2000), Poleski
Osrdek Sztuki, Lodz, Poland (2001), Gallery T.A.M. Krakow, Poland and
the Temporary/Contemporary Gallery, Krakow, Poland (2001),
In addition to these one man exhibitions Mr. Emery’s works have recently
been featured in the Santa Monica College Printmaking Art Exhibition at
the Modern Art Gallery in Los Angeles (1999). Evaluation/Inversion
Printmaking Exhibition at California State University at Long Beach
(2000) and My Polish Experience at the Pete and Susan Barrett Art
Gallery in Santa Monica (2001). Don was also invited to exhibit and
curate an art exhibition with the Rhode Island School of Design (2000).
