Homework: Reading the textbook and workbook and completing the exercises are critical to your success in the class. You will need regular access to the Internet to complete many assignments and to check your answers. In addition, five one-page writing assignments will be made.
Study groups or partnerships: Having a serious study partner can help you learn the course material, which may seem quite technical and mysterious. If you establish a professional yet friendly relationship with classmates, you'll have a good time while you are learning.
Instructor’s
availability: I
am available by appointment Mondays through Thursdays. If you do not understand the material, please call
or e-mail me. If we cannot resolve your questions via the phone or e-mail, we can
schedule a meeting. Do not delay since what we study today builds on what we
studied yesterday. When you take steps now to clarify what confuses you, the
next lesson will make sense. If you don’t seek answers to your questions,
the next lesson will be unnecessarily difficult.
Tutoring
in Tech 313:
The English/Humanities Tutoring Center offers free-of-charge tutoring in
English and several liberal arts courses. Appointments can be made in the
center.
Succeeding in this course requires that you complete assignments in a thoughtful manner and study regularly. A wise strategy is to study the text and to complete assignments during the weekends and to review shortly before Tuesday’s meetings. Thus, you will have time to absorb the concepts and to find examples in your everyday reading.
