Phishing and Vishing: VoIP Scam

Even as computer users become more savvy in identifying phishing scams in their email, a new threat is here – Vishing. Vishing is the newest evolution of electronic identity theft that uses VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol software via the telephone). Rather than providing a link to click and enter information on a clone site that looks identical to a bank, credit card company or PayPal, unsuspecting users place a phone call to the number provided and enter account numbers or PIN codes. By using VoIP software, the computer that answers the call can record the keystrokes entered for accounts and PIN codes and save the information for fraudulent use.

As with phishing scams, protect yourself from vishing scams by being more aware of whom you are giving your information to and know why they are asking for it. If you are contacted and asked to verify an account number or other personal information, contact the bank or organization directly using the toll free customer service number provided on the back of your credit or debit card and not any phone number listed in the email received in order to inform them that you received a suspicious email.

Windows XP Firewall

The Windows XP firewall program is designed to block unauthorized access into your computer. It does not block unauthorized traffic from your computer to other computers.

So why is this bad? If a virus or worm gets into your computer, it will have unlimited access to send anything it wants to any other computer -- including personal information about you. Most commercial firewall programs block access to and from your computer - so even if a hacker gets into your computer, he still has to defeat the firewall on the way out.

YouTube Not Working With Internet Explorer 7?

If IE7 is not working with YouTube there is a reason.  It is the version of IE7.

If you are using Version
7.0.5730.11 - You should see YouTube.
7.0.5730.13 - You will have a problem.

You will notice it when you do Windows Update.  They make no mention of it.  Until then, Microsoft isn't doing anything about it.  Hopefully they will make changes on the next update.

BETTER YET - USE FIREFOX.  It does not have a problem with YouTube.
